For many years in the building industry, epoxy formulations have been a very important part in projects and applications. For floor applications, epoxy floor coatings specifically are commonly used, and it is important to know about some facts of this important coating material.
To be able to produce a high performing epoxy coatings, epoxy resins are used as the main materials which would result to a quality formulation of epoxy based primers, top coats and sealants. Manufacturing plants, warehouse floors, heavy machinery garages, and airplane hangars are often exposed to damage inducing factors, and this is why epoxy floor coatings are applied to these floors because of the material’s resistance to these damages.
Know that epoxy coatings have high adhesive properties, like 1.5 thousand pounds of adhesive power for every inch of flooring, thus translating to floors that can remain solid and in good condition for a long time even if under high physical loads.
Epoxy floor coatings contain pigments that will expand fast when there is exposure to heat, making the coatings good fire retardants. Once the pigments expand, a thick barrier protection is formed that will last long enough for the fire-fighting team to come to the rescue.
Note that epoxy floor coatings are effective in several surfaces because of its water borne, high solids or solvent borne properties.
Epoxy floor coatings then, because of its inherent chemical properties, have become a versatile and high performing coatings that are sought after to meet any kind of requirements for coating applications.
